DREW ASCHLIMAN, a former Mineral Point High School athlete, paced the University of Dubuque men’s golf in its opening tournament last week.
Aschliman, a 6-foot 2-inch sophomore, was one of three members of the Spartans’s “B” team to finish in the top- 15 of the Culver’s Edgewood University Fall Invitational.
He finished in a tie for 12th place with a 2-over-par 144 (76-68) at Glen Erin Golf Course in Janesville.
Aschliman’s second-round 68 was the second-best round of the day and moved him up 30 places on the leaderboard.
The Spartans finished with a score of 577 (293-284) to comfortably finish in second place in the 20-team field.
UD does not have a match this weekend, but returns Sept. 13 for the Frank Wrigglesworth Blugold Invitational, hosted by UW-Eau Claire.
ANNIE ROBINSON, a former Mineral Point High School athlete, opened her season on the South Dakota State University women’s cross country team last week.
Robinson, a sophomore, placed 25th overall at the Augustana Twilight in Yankton Trail Park.
She was the seventh harrier for the Jackrabbits to complete the 5K race in a time of 18 minutes 18.3 seconds.
ELLIE ROBINSON, a former Mineral Point High School athlete, also competed for the Jackrabbits in Sioux Falls, SD.
Ellie Robinson, a sophomore, finished the race with a time of 19:33.4 to cross the finish line 89th out of 349 runners in the race and 11th for the Jackrabbits.
With its top five runners finishing in the top 20, the Jackrabbits tallied 63 points to finish second among the 28- team event.
SDSU is off this weekend and will return to competition Sept. 19 in Lincoln, Neb., at the Greeno/Dirksen Invitational.
ELI LINDSEY, a former Mineral Point High School athlete, paced a Viterbo University men’s golf team last weekend in Minnesota.
Lindsey, a sophomore, was the top finisher for the V- Hawks’ “B” team at the Augsburg Men’s Fall Invite. He shot a 158 (79-78) across the Majestic Oaks Golf Course and finished tied for 35th overall.
The V-Hawks garnered 10th place after shooting a 636 (314-322).
Viterbo will play in the Wisconsin Lutheran Invitational on Sunday at the Washington County Golf Course in Hartford.
KENNEDY WENGER, a former Mineral Point High School athlete, averaged 10 kills for the UW-Platteville volleyball team last weekend in its opening tournament.
Wenger, a 5-11 senior MB, finished A with 32 kills as the Pioneers went 1-2 at the Kathryne Pals Legacy Invitational, hosted by the University of Northwestern (Minn).
Wenger tallied 25 total points while in St. Paul, and was highlighted by a 14- kill, 17.5-pt performance in the opening match against Lawrence.
She also chipped in with five solo blocks, five block assists, and four digs.
MADDY KABAT, a former Mineral Point High School athlete, provided support off the bench for the Pioneers.
Kabat, a 5-9 freshman OH/OPP, played in 10 of 11 sets and contributed in all three matches.
She had 8.5 points on five kills and 3.5 block assists to go along with a dig and five assists.
The Pioneers defeated Bethel College (Minn) in between losses to Lawrence and UNW.
UW-P (1-2, 0-0) plays at Wartburg College (la) on Wednesday night before participating in the Wisconsin Lutheran Tournament over the weekend.
ALEX ROSS, a former Mineral Point High School athlete, was a top finisher
for the UW- Stevens Point men’s golf team last weekend.
Ross, a 5- 11 junior, was the Pointers’ “B” team top finisher with a 147 (71-76) and tied with seven other golfers for 20th place at the Culver’s Edgewood University Fall Invitational.
He put six birdies on this scorecard, including four during his even par opening round.
The Pointers’ “B” team took eight place with a score of 592 (298-294), one stroke better than their teammates on the “A” team.
UW-SP plays next Sept. 13-14 at the Frank Wrigglesworth Invitational.
GRADY GORGEN, a former Mineral Point High School athlete, made two appearances for the New Jersey Jackals last week.
Gorgen, a 6-3 pitcher, tossed a total of 3.0 innings of relief against the Quebec Captiales and Ottawa Titans.
He earned his sixth win of the season, and third since joining the Jackals in late July, with two innings of work against Quebec where he allowed a pair of earned runs on two hits and a walk.
Gorgen threw 35 pitches, 20 of those strikes, to 10 batters to notch the win. New Jersey is 56-45 and sits atop the East Division of the Frontier League.
