Daughters of Temperance
"Cold Water" Union, No. 9, D. of T. was instituted in this village on Tuesday, under the direction of Mrs. ADELIA M. BLISS, D. G. P. S., for district No. 5. – This new Union has opened under very favorable circumstances and bids fair to become a useful auxiliary in the great Temperance cause . . .
"ET TU BRUTE." — In using this quotation last week in the TRIB- UNE the second t was omitted, much to the advantage of the dead language expert of the Democrat. If that editor's familiarity with the classics is what makes the Democrat so much superior to its contemporaries we have great reason to regret our want of proficiency in that branch of study.
-Prof. Dayton, hypnotist and prestigiator, who gave exhibitions of his powers and skill at the city hall Monday and Tuesday, is quite a master in his line. He used as subjects some of our best known citizen's mature men who could not be played upon by weak performers, and they all agree that his mesmeric powers are genuine, and his tricks of legerdemain of the most complex kind.
