
DOM MCVAY, a former Mineral Point High School athlete, powered the UW- Whitewater baseball team at the WIAC tournament. McVay, a 5-foot 9- inch junior OF, hit safely in all five games as the Warhawks won the confer- WARHAWKS ence tournament on their home field.
In the second and deciding game against UW-La Crosse, McVay set the table for the Warhawks by belting home runs in consecutive at bats; first a solo shot followed by a 2-run blast.
He finished the 11-9 win with the two homers in five trips to the plate, two runs scored and three runs batted in (RBI).
McVay reached base at least twice in three of the four preceding games as well that culminated with a 2-RBI single in the ninth inning of the first game against UW-L last Saturday.

LEYTEN BOWERS, a former Mineral Point High School athlete, was a constant visitor to the bases for the Warhawks as well last week.
Bowers, a 6-0 senior INF, was on WARHAWKS base 10 times as the Warhawks posted a 4-1 mark at the tournament.
In the two games against the Eagles, he made it to the bases six times, with three hits in the 11-7 win followed by three walks in the 11-9 triumph.
One of his hits was a 3-run home run over the right field fence in the fourth inning that evened the game at the time, 4-4.
Bowers also homered in a 7-1 over UW-River Falls to set up a showdown with UW-L
He finished the week with three runs scored and four RBI.
The two victories over the Eagles last Saturday gives the Warhawks their third consecutive tournament championship.
UW-W (41-4, 28-0) begins play in the NCAA Division III tournament on Friday by hosting Macalester College (Minn) at 11am.

LIAM STUMPF, a former Mineral Point High School athlete, provided consistent results for the Central Michigan University (CMU) baseball team last week.
Stumpf, a 6-0 redshirt senior pitcher, had near identical stat lines in two appearances for the Chippewas against Oakland and Akron.
He was not the pitcher of record in either contest after allowing earned run an on two hits, a walk, and a hit batter to each team.
The lone difference in the stat lines was an additional hit batter against the Zips.
Stumpf threw a total of 70 pitches to 17 batters.
CMU (22-28, 11-19) plays at the University of Massachusetts beginning Thursday for the final series of the regular season; all three games against the Minutemen will be televised on ESPN+.

LEXIE WEIER, a former Mount Horeb athlete from Mineral Point, recorded a top-five finish for the UW-W women’s track team last week.
Weier, a senior horizontal jump specialist, captured fifth place in the triple jump at the NIU Huskie Classic in DeKalb, III.
Her best effort of the day was 36 feet 3 inches (11.05m), a distance she marked twice during the competition.
Weier’s fifth-place finish was the best among non-NCAA DI athletes in the field.
UW-W will compete in Last Chance Meets on Thursday.

ANNIE ROBINSON, a former Mineral Point High School athlete, was a top finisher for the South Dakota State University women’s track team last Friday.
Robinson, a freshman distance runner, placed second in the 3000- meter steeplechase at the University of South Dakota Twilight Meet.
She crossed the finish line with a time of 11:29.65, less than one second behind the race winner.
SDSU sets its sights on the Summit League Championships beginning Thursday in Fargo, ND.

GRADY GORGEN, a former Mineral Point High School athlete, kicked off another season with the New York Bounders baseball team last week.
Gorgen, a 6-3 pitcher, tossed an inning of relief during the team’s T first victory of the year, 7-3, over the Brockton Rox.
He faced the minimum of three batters in the sixth inning, relinquishing only a walk during his 18 pitches.
New York (2-1) plays the Ottawa Titans and Sussex County Miners this week.
