KADE RULE, a former Mineral Point High School athlete, finished his first season on the University of Chattanooga (UTC) wrestling team last Thursday. Rule, a freshman at 197 pounds, was in Cleveland, Oh., for the NCAA Division I championships and dropped his first two matches. He opened with a 10-3 loss to twotime all-American Stephan Little from Little Rock (Ark). Little scored three takedowns and fended off multiple deep shots by Rule en route to the win. A 2-0 defeat to Karson Tompkins from Air Force ended Rule’s season in the consolation preliminaries. “I think he needs to obviously get a little bit bigger. He’s pretty small for the weight class, but he wrestles hard and so you see how good he is,” UTC head coach Kyle Ruschell said of Rule. “We all know what he needs to work on over the summer is in his positions and finishing, but some of that’s just the strength. But it’s a great taste of what this actually looks and feels like when you’ve never been here before. That’s a lot of experience for a true freshman to have moving forward in this career.” The Mocs garnered one team point to tie for 57th place. Rule started 11 of 15 dual meets this season, finishing 18-7 overall that included an unblemished record against Southern Conference foes. UTC went 10-5 in duals this season, including a 7-1 mark in SoCon action.
