LEYTON BOWERS, a former Mineral Point High School athlete, helped the UW-Whitewater baseball team to six wins last week.

Bowers, a 6-foot senior INF, recorded seven hits and reached base in every game for the Warhawks.

Four of those hits went for extra bases – three doubles and a triple as Bowers drove in seven runs while scoring once himself.

He also drew seven walks and was hit by a pitch.

Bowers batted .318 (7-for-22) with one two-hit game to his credit.

DOM MCVAY, a former Mineral Point High School athlete, was an offensive weapon for the Warhawks as well in Florida.

McVay, a 5- 9 junior OF, hit WARHAWKS safely in all six games as well that included a pair of two-hit efforts.

He went 8-for-25 (.320) at the plate with four runs scored and three RBI.

McVay reached base with seven singles and one each, triple, walk, fielder’s choice, and hit by pitch.

The Warhawks are riding a sixgame win streak having beaten Nebraska Wesleyan – twice, Grinnell College (Ia), Sewanee (Tenn), Carroll University, and Edgewood University.

UW-W (7-3, 0-0) plays Trinity College (Conn) on Wednesday.

LIAM STUMPF, a former Mineral Point High School athlete, was called to C the mound twice for the Central Michigan University (CMU) baseball team last week.

Stumpf, a 6- 0 redshirt senior pitcher, threw a total of 2.1 innings against Mercyhurst University (Pa) and Kent State (Oh).

The Chippewas survived an 18- 14 against the Lakers and were clipped 6-4 by the Golden Flashes.

Stumpf faced eight Mercyhurst batters, allowing two runs on four walks with a strikeout, and then needed only 11 pitches to hold Kent State scoreless in the eighth inning.

CMU (7-10, 1-5) is scheduled to host a three-game series against Toledo beginning Friday with Michigan State coming to Mount Pleasant next Tuesday as well.

LIZ HOFFMAN, a former Mineral Point High School athlete,

appeared in three games for the UW-Platte ville softball team last week.

Hoffman, a freshman 1B/P, was on the bump in games against the University of Dubuque, Fredonia State University (NY), and SUNY Cortland.

She threw a total of 3.2 innings where she allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits and two walks.

Hoffman also recorded one strikeout and was not the pitcher of record in any of the games.

UW-P (7-4, 0-0) has games Thursday and Friday to conclude its trip to Clermont, Fla.

JADYN SWINEHART, a former Mineral Point High School athlete, made her debut on the mound for the UW-Stout softball team last week.

Swinehart, a 5-10 freshman P/OF, STOUT took the mound in the fourth inning against Ohio Northern and lasted just four batters.

She tossed 13 pitches, allowing two runs (one earned) a pair of hits and a walk in the 5-4 loss.

UW-S (9-5, 0-0) plays two games on Thursday and Friday, each, to wrap up its Florida trip.
