Mary Jane Rideout, 97, of rural Mineral Point, passed away peacefully in the home she was born on Wednesday, September 16, 2026. She was born on July 6, 1929, to Charles H and Eunice (Howard) Yeager. She was the 3rd of four sisters; Ruth Jungbluth, Donna Ralph and Joyce Harris.
She graduated from Mineral Point High School in 1947. She married LeRoy Rideout on July 12, 1947. He preceded her in death in 1998. She and LeRoy farmed their whole life in the Dodgeville, Hollandale, Jonesdale and Mineral Point areas until their final move to her parents’ homestead referred to as the Forest Farms, Established in 1915. In 1969 she became employed by the Iowa County Department of Social Services as a Homemaker and was awarded the Iowa County Homemaker of the year in 1988. She retired in 1994.
She was involved in the Rebekahs, the Iowa County Homemakers Club, the Neighborhood Card Clubs, served on the Mineral Point School Board, a member of the First United Methodist Church and served on the Advisory Board, Choir director at the church for both the Junior and Senior choirs, and was instrumental in creating costumes at times for the High School Musicals.
Mary Jane is survived by her daughters, Jean Marie (Ray) Van Matre, Sharon (Steve) Jorgenson and Verda Nemo (Dan McLimans); her grandson, Jason Walrack and her step grandchildren, Kara (Tim) Brandemuehl and Kraig (Kelly) Nemo; her great grandchildren, Deven (Leah) Walrack, Sasha Walrack (Lucas Zimmerman), Jaron Walrack (Madelyn Corley), Stephanie (Colten) Tuescher, Megan (Jared) Cashman, Bo, Dylan and Rhya Brandemuehl and Ashlyn and Kinley Nemo; her great great grandchildren, Cherokee Henry, Temperence, Scout and Jules Walrack, Lylah and Blake Tuescher, Alayah Cashman, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy, her son-in-law, James Nemo, her grandson, Tim Walrack, her parents and her sisters and their husbands.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Mineral Point. Pastor Lorri McGranahan will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 9:30 until 10:50 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church.
