Last week, our team enjoyed the Kiwanis Chicken BBQ! It was a great opportunity to support a wonderful community organization while enjoying some time together, socializing, and sharing a delicious meal.
We’re especially grateful to the Kiwanis Club for the support they provided when we were getting our organization started. Their early encouragement and investment in our community mean so much to us.
* NO KID SLEEPS ON THE FLOOR IN OUR TOWN!
Huge shoutout to the Kiwanis Club of Dodgeville for serving up another fantastic summer chicken BBQ for the community and for all of their support to SHP! Our core team and delivery leads Mike Phillips and Lori Anderson enjoyed a wonderful evening of socializing while savoring the Kiwanis’ famous dinner of 1/2 chicken, corn on the cob, a roll, cookie, and milk, all prepared by hard-working dedicated Kiwanis members and volunteers. Delivery leads Luci and Mark Ramthun were there as well, with Mark providing lively entertainment as part of the German Band.
Our gratitude to the Kiwanis Club goes way back. Before Iowa County’s SHP chapter was officially established, the Kiwanis invited Leon Neuheisel, president of Grant County’s SHP chapter, to speak at a monthly meeting. His presentation sparked and inspired the creation of what is now our Iowa County chapter.
The Kiwanis Club also provided invaluable support in our early days, helping us accept, track, and acknowledge donations before we had accounts of our own. They allowed us to use their mailing address before we had a PO box and even shared Facebook posts on our behalf before we had our own page.
We are honored to support this outstanding community organization and grateful for all they have done to help us grow. Enjoying a delicious dinner together was simply an added bonus!
We will be coming together with the community again, not over dinner but over saws and sanders, drills and branding irons at our next community build on Saturday Sept 12th.
This one is special because we are participating in Bunks Across America. This Nationwide initiative aims to bring Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) chapters across America together to build beds the same week to try and meet lofty goals and end bedlessness on a large scale. They hope to get 12,000 beds built, 15,000 volunteers engaged nationwide and 250+ chapters participating to get kids off of the floor and into their own beds.
Please plan to join us on Saturday Sept. 12, 2026 at Mueller Implements/Rentals in Dodgeville on YZ next to Farm & Fleet. Anyone can volunteer with SHP, no experience required.
Please use the link https://x.gldn.io/e/i1KCYkLrB5b or use the attached QR code to sign up/accept and sign a waiver. Or if online is not an option, you may sign up on site. Check In starts at 9am and the build will start at 9:30am. For more information please contact Julie Sincox, volunteer coordinator at Julie.Sincox@shpbeds.org
We’re hoping to build 10 bunk bed tops with safety rails, and we’d love your help. Come be one of the 15,000 volunteers making a difference!
