Linden firefighters anticipate new unit

A federal grant and local donations will mean the Linden Volunteer Fire Department can fight fires more quickly and safely and with less water damage.

A Federal Emergency Management Agency assistance to firefighters grant of $38,065 will be used to buy a ultra-high pressure skid unit.

The unit increases water surface area by 16 times, meaning fires can be knocked down faster.

It is easier to maneuver at structure or car fires.

It will be placed on a new rapid response vehicle, a one-ton cab crew pick-up that will replace a 37-yearold unit.

So far, $10,000 of the total $53,000 cost of the truck has been donated.

"Through your generous donation, we will provide greater protection of property and life," said Linden Fire Chief Kevin Liddicoat.

Donations can be mailed to Linden Volunteer Fire Dept., P.O. Box 469 Linden, WI 53553, delivered in person to Village of Linden Municipal Building Monday to Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., or dropped off at any Farmers Savings Bank location for deposit into the Linden Volunteer Fire Department account.

If enough donations are received, firefighters plan to have the equipment in use by the end of the year.
