After fourteen years, Cory and Deb Sokol, owners of Dodge-Point Country Club, have turned the keys over to its new owner, 31-year-old Alex Schulte of Dodgeville. The sale was completed on Thursday, March 26, and he opened the doors for golfers on Monday.

“I started having a conversation with Cory last year as I knew it was for sale, just small talk, and then it gradually went up from there. I talked to a bank to see what it would take to make it happen and I did everything I could to get to this point,” said Schulte.

Alex has been a maintenance manager/mechanical engineer at Cardinal Glass in Spring Green since 2019. He is from Darlington and played high school golf there. He graduated from UW-Platteville in 2018 and played at the Platteville Country Club while in college. He then moved to Dodgeville and has been playing at Dodge-Point Country Club ever since.

“It’s awesome. People would say to me what would you do if you won the lottery, and my thought was, I’d buy a golf course. It turns out you don’t need to win the lottery, you just need a large loan,” he said laughing. He did say his family helped him with the down payment. And because his parents golf, part of the deal is they get free membership.

He said his family has been out the past two weeks helping get things ready on the course. His dad owned half of Brunkow Cheese near Fayette for over twenty years, retiring a couple years ago.

Schulte said don’t expect many initial changes at Dodge-Point. “I am someone who really appreciates the fact that Cory and Debbie have made this a family-friendly, working-class golf course. They’ve created a good culture here and I want to keep that going. This year is all about going the same route. I’ve really enjoyed being a member here since 2018. It’s a tightknit group.”

What was Alex thinking Monday morning when he drove to the course which opened for business for 2026 at 10:00 a.m .? “Well, I almost turned the wrong direction, and then I just smiled the whole way, its about a two-minute drive for me, but I just smiled the whole way, pulled in, I sat out back here sipping coffee in the dark for twenty minutes on my own and tried to take it all in and get ready for the day.”

Golf leagues, tournaments, and events will all stay the same and that the 2026 calendar year is nearly filled. He said Cory will be involved throughout the year as they have a good relationship and he’ll eventually take a step back on things, while Debbie will help out for the first few events. “Cory and Debbie have done such a great job out here, building this place up when they took over in 2012, and I just want to keep it going in the same direction.”

Cole Nelson will be the new head greenskeeper who previously was course superintendent at Cole Acres Golf Course, and John Fuller will be taking care of the golf course grounds. Pat Eagan, for years the superintendent at Dodge-Point, will be retiring this year and he will also stay on to help Cole and John for the next month or two during this transition.

“I’d like to congratulate Alex Schulte as the new owner of Dodge- Point and wish him nothing but success with his future endeavor,” said Cory Sokol. “To the members, 10- pass holders, and everyone that has just stopped by to have a drink, we cannot thank you enough for your patronage over these last 14 years. You have all become a part of our family, and we are indebted to you more than you know. To our employees, there are no words to describe what you have done and meant to our families, and you will ALWAYS be close to our hearts for the rest of our lives,” he said.

Debbie Sokol also wished Alex the best of luck and in a Facebook post wrote, “As a mother I sure couldn’t have asked for a better partner to go through these years with. It wasn’t easy at times as you all know, but we made those years memorable ones. Now, in our next chapter there are going to be more memories with the most important people in my life.”

Dodge-Point Country Club is open for the year. Tee times can be made by calling 608-987-2500. “None of us are dying,” Cory said. “We are just coming to the other side of the bar. We love each and every one of you, and we are looking forward to sitting back and watching Dodge- Point Country Club strive to be one of the best kept secrets in Wisconsin.”
