Mineral Point leaned on a commanding performance from pitcher Bockhop to edge out Fennimore in a tightly contested 1-0 matchup Thursday.
Bockhop set the tone early and never let up, striking out 11 batters across a complete-game shutout. She scattered just three hits over seven innings and issued only one walk, keeping Fennimore’s offense off balance all game long.
Only a sophomore, Bockhop recorded her career strike. out #200 in earning the win.
The contest remained scoreless through four innings, with both teams struggling to generate momentum. Mineral Point finally broke through in the bottom of the fifth, when Leah Hoffman delivered a clutch single that drove in the game’s only run.
At the plate, Mineral Point managed only two hits, with Jadyn Schultz and Hoffman each recording one. Hoffman’s hit proved decisive, as she also led the team with the lone RBI and finished 1-for-2.
Fennimore’s offense was led by Fitzgerald, who accounted for two of the team’s three hits with a 2- for-3 performance, but the Eagles were unable to capitalize against Bockhop’s dominant outing.
