COURTHOUSE Art for the month of September

The Art Exhibit for September, 2026, is presented by Violet Hill, Mineral Point, a returning Courthouse Artist. Her work can be viewed on the second floor.

According to Violet: “I think of our lives as being like tiny ecosystems filled with all kinds of life. Our individual ecosystems are built from the ground up enlivened by the plants and animals we notice. It is all colored by how we see our experiences both real and imagined. We have infinite opportunities to find pleasure in the space around us. I see my world as a place to love and have fun. All of this came to mind recently as I’ve been reading A Sand County Almanac by Aldo Leopold as a pleasant way to drift off to sleep.”

“These drawings, paintings, prints and assemblage represent images which caught some small moments in my life. One morning I watched a crow hurry through my garden eating the pansy flowers I had so hopefully planted. Another year I watched baby birds leave the nest to briefly take comfort in flowerpots before flying off into the big world.”

“Wrapped around the manifest world is the wider less visible world of faith and magic – ideas of freedom, of angels or leprechauns or phoenix new beginnings. And the invisible world filled with the joys of sound and music. It’s everywhere – from magnificent music to the smallest sounds – like the little sound the slinkies make when their frame is gently tapped. Go ahead and do it. Just for fun. It’s one of life’s many fleeting moments to enjoy just because.”

You can enjoy Violet Hill’s display during September at the Iowa County Courthouse, second floor, weekdays, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. It is open to the public.
