The Mineral Point School Board met in special session Monday night to hire Gina Weier as a middle school math teacher for the first quarter of the school year.
Weier, who retired after teaching math in the Dodgeville School District for 35 years, also taught high school math in Mineral Point for the first semester last year.
A late resignation left the position open.
The board also hired Isaac Campbell as varsity softball coach.
And it formed an ad-hoc committee to increase student participation in the hot lunch program, including how to add more from-scratch offerings and improve food quality. It includes local farmers, producers and sellers as well as school officials. Committee members are food service director Kimmy Mumm, school district nurse Jayne Lindsey, Dr. Sarah Fox, Jenny Bonde, Nicole Bujewski, Kassi Blanchette, Jason Steffes, Scott Mericka and Will Harris.
Within a year, the committee will recommend possible improvements, including potentially purchasing local fruits, vegetables and meat.
