
Mineral Point, WI – Gary B. Hamilton, 83, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2026, from a UTV accident on his farm. He was born May 12, 1943, to Lawrence L. and Etta L. (Boldt) Hamilton and grew up in the Patch Grove area.
Gary graduated from West Grant High School in 1961 and immediately entered the Navy. Gary was stationed on the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt from 1961-1965. Gary was very proud of his time in the service and honored to be a United States Veteran. He was a member of the American Legion in Mineral Point. Gary worked for 27 years for UPS delivering around the Lancaster area. Gary continued to work for many years after; driving semi, school bus, and motorcoach.
Gary built roots in the Mineral Point area on the “The Hamilton Ranch” that he worked for nearly 53 years. Gary lived life with the heart of a true cowboy, whether he was working cattle or riding horses. Gary was happiest outdoors. Horses were more than a passion; he bred, raised, and trained them all his life. He enjoyed his years with the Wisconsin High School Rodeo Association. Gary competed and won many roping competitions over the years, even with his brother Oz. He mentored many high school students over the years, who had the same passion for horses and rodeo as he did.
Gary is survived by his wife of 55 years plus: Beverly (Hupenbecker) Hamilton of Mineral Point, Son: Shawn (Kendra) Hamilton of Mineral Point, Grandson: Wyatt Hamilton; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Willis (Loretta), James ‘Jiggs’ (Betty); Lawrence ‘Oz’ and sister Rita (Alfred) Recker.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the Mineral Point Fire Department, Iowa County Sheriff’s Department, Mineral Point EMS, and the MedFlight team. A special thank you goes to Larry Dale and Mandy Schultz for their love and support through it all.
