John Grinnell, 55, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on 5/27/2026, surrounded by his family, friends, and loved ones. John suffered an aortic aneurysm in the emergency room at Hennepin County Medical Center and held on to life for two weeks; long enough to say goodbye. He was a dear friend, partner, brother and uncle, and will be missed by so many. A Celebration of Life will be held at Grumpy’s in NE Minneapolis on August 22, 2026. All are welcome to attend.
John was born on August 24, 1970, in Freeport Il., to Gary and Patricia (Pat) Grinnell. He grew up in Mineral Point Wisconsin, and graduated from High School in 1988. From there he moved to Janesville Wi, and eventually to Minneapolis MN., where he spent the majority of his adult life. Along the way he made many lasting friendships. John had an unparalleled zest for life. He loved music, photography, his friends and family, and experiencing all NE Minneapolis had to offer.
John leaves behind Jeana Behnke, his partner, and siblings Mike and (Joyce) Grinnell, Michele Grinnell and John Bell, Dan and (Michelle) Grinnell, and many nieces, nephews, and greats, and his beloved cat.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gary and Patricia Grinnell, and his great nephew Eli Martin.
