Pitching, power send Pointers past I-G

Behind a dominant pitching performance from Tenleigh Bockhop and timely hitting from Austy Kinch and Chloe McVay, the Mineral Point Pointers defeated lowa-Grant 4- 1 Thursday night to clinch a share of the SWAL Conference championship.

Bockhop controlled the game from the circle from the opening inning, striking out 12 batters while allowing just one hit and one earned run across seven innings. The right-hander did not issue a walk in the completegame victory.

Mineral Point wasted little time getting on the scoreboard.

In the first inning, Kinch delivered a two-run home run to left field to give the Pointers an early 2-0 advantage.

The Pointers added to the lead in the second inning when Chloe McVay came through with a run-scoring single as Mineral Point plated two more runs to extend the margin to 4- 0.

Kinch finished 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Mineral Point in hits, while both Kinch and McVay drove in two runs apiece.

lowa-Grant managed its lone run later in the game, but Bockhop continued to overpower Panthers hitters throughout the night, sealing the conferenceclinching win.

With the victory, Mineral Point secured a share of the SWAL Conference title for the 15th time in program history.
