Kinch helps power Pointer softball

Austy Kinch put together a standout performance at the plate to lead Mineral Point to a 6-1 win over Deerfield on Friday.

Kinch was a constant problem for Deerfield’s defense, going 3- for-4 with two doubles and a single, collecting hits in the first, third, and fourth innings.

In the circle, Tenleigh Bockhop was dominant from start to finish. The right-hander struck out 10 batters while allowing just one run on six hits across a complete-game effort, walking three.

Mineral Point broke through in the third inning to take control. Jadyn Schultz brought in a run with a sacrifice fly, and Aida Tuttle followed with an RBI single down the left field line to extend the lead.

Deerfield’s Addison Haas went the distance but took the loss, giving up six runs-only two earned-on seven hits while striking out one and walking one.

Schultz added to the offense with two RBIs from the middle of the lineup. The Pointers also applied pressure on the bases, swiping four bags in the game.

Defensively, Mineral Point was sharp throughout, committing no errors. Kinch was heavily involved in the field as well, finishing with a team-high 11 chances.
