175 YEARS AGO May 8, 1851
Spirit knockings are becoming quite frequent in many of the Eastern States. An occasional indication of Spirits knocking is manifested in Mineral Point. We understand that on Saturday afternoon of last week, at a certain Saloon in town, quite an amount of furniture was knocked into pie, and some individuals were severely knocked in the head. These spirits are hard knockers some times.
150 YEARS AGO May 10, 1876
THE Milwaukee Sentinel and a few other crooked whisky journals are employing such tactics in the interest of Blaine that should he be nominated, it will be difficult to convince the people that he is not in some respects of similar character to his unworthy champions.

-The historic old town of Prairie du Chien is discussing a proposition to adopt the modern idea of restraining cows from roaming at will through its streets. “The world doth move.”
100 YEARS AGO May 6, 1926 NEW PICTURE MACHINE.
The World theatre has installed a new Simplex projection machine, which gives the very best in motion picture projection and makes the equipment of that theatre very satisfactory. One machine, which was damaged in the late fire, has been discarded.
50 YEARS AGO May 6, 1976
The Mineral Point City Council decided not to purchase an used street sweeper for $4000 instead of a new one for $32,000 because of all the repair needs.
Joe Joestgen was a triple winner in track,winning the 100, 200 dashes and the long jump, in a meet against Platteville that the Pointers won.

Mineral Point Park Commissioner Jim Bennett promised to have playground equipment at Soldiers Memorial Park. He came up short a few thousand dollars from the $20,000 needed, but the playground equipment is in.
Mineral Point beat Highland and Dodgeville to win the Dodgeville Baseball Tournament.

Mineral Point celebrated being the first city to be listed in the National Register of Historic Places 50 years ago with special events going on.
Justice Hendrick was recognized by Rep. Todd Novak and Congressman Howard Marklein for earning his Eagle Scout badge.

Even though people were masked and it was windy, the sun was shining for the opening of thee Farmer Market.
Liam Stumpf and Nolan Springer combined on a no-hitter as the Pointer baseball team beat Iowa- Grant.
