Pointers softball wins pair at Waterloo tourney

Mineral Point made the trip to Waterloo on Saturday and came away with two impressive tournament wins, highlighted by dominant pitching in the opener and a breakout offensive performance in game two.

In their first contest against Lomira, Bockhop delivered a lights-out performance in the circle, striking out 11 batters over seven shutout innings. The right-hander allowed just four hits and one walk as he kept Lomira off balance from start to finish in a 2-0 victory. Both of Mineral Point’s runs came in the sixth inning, when an error by Lomira and an RBI single from Ingwell provided the breakthrough. Ingwell finished 1-for- 3 with an RBI, while Wenger added a perfect 2-for-2 effort at the plate. Lomira’s Caspary took the loss despite a complete-game outing, allowing two unearned runs on six hits.

In their second game against Waterloo, Mineral Point’s bats came alive in a 9-3 win. Kinch led the charge with a perfect 4-for-4 day, hitting for the cycle of singles, doubles, and a triple while driving in two runs. The Pointers opened the scoring in the first on a Schultz groundout and later pulled away with a four-run third inning, featuring RBI hits from Kinch and Tuttle along with a bases loaded walk by Bockhop.

Tuttle earned the win on the mound, striking out eight over seven innings while allowing just one earned run. Mineral Point totaled 12 hits in the game, with Schultz, Tuttle, and Kinch each driving in two runs. Kabat also contributed a multi-hit effort, and Schultz reached base four times behind three walks as the offense showed strong patience throughout.

Waterloo was led by Novak, who drove in two runs and finished 2-for- 4, but could not slow Mineral Point’s momentum.
