The Mineral Point baseball team traveled to Waterloo for a Saturday tournament and split its two games.
In the opener, the Pointers rolled to a 10-2 win over Algoma, powered by a huge performance from Grady Finley, who drove in four runs. Algoma struck first in the third inning when Braeden Leist delivered a sacrifice fly to score Cal DeMeuse.
They added another run in the fourth on a sac fly from DeMeuse to take a 2-0 lead.
That’s where the Algoma offense stalled. Mineral Point turned the game on its head in the seventh inning, erupting for 10 runs. The rally was sparked by three Algoma errors, and the Pointers capitalized, stringing together key hits including multiple RBI contributions from Finley to take control. Algoma was unable to respond in the bottom half, sealing the 10-2 victory for the Pointers.
In the second game, Mineral Point faced Johnson Creek but came up short in a 16-6 loss. Brett Bossert led the Pointers with three RBIs, but Johnson Creek’s offense proved too much, pulling away to secure the 10- run win.
