A new exhibition will open at Green Lantern Studios this Saturday evening. Katie Schutte’s show, titled “Sifted & Stitched”, is comprised of mixed media artworks, primarily involving paper, acrylic paint, and – unexpectedly – fiber, in the form of sewing and crochet. These geometric, abstract images are based on the traditional handmade doily. Katie uses actual doilies which she sprays, paints, and pounces over to create a colorful, complex “ground” which she then overlays with the fiber component. The result is often a sense of the paint area being overrun by an organic conglomeration of yarnwork.
