
Cheryl Jane Melcher, age 92, of Mineral Point, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 19, 2026, after a long battle with ovarian cancer.
Cheryl was born May 5, 1933 in Ortonville, MN, to Archie Lee and Irene Valentine Makinster.
She was a Homemaker, volunteering her time in many ways to the communities she lived in.
Cheryl was skilled in home improvement projects including refinishing furniture and wood trim, wall papering, and upholstery. She was a talented quilter, spending many hours creating dozens of quilts, table runners, and wall hangings.
The churches Cheryl was involved with over her adult life were very important to her. She took on many roles ranging from facilitation of
groups, to a library expansion, acting on a committee to secure a new organ, and an especially treasured role of supporting her husband Beryl in his work as pastor.
Cheryl married Carlton Lindwall in August 1952 until his death in February of 1987.
In June 1988, she married Beryl Melcher until her death.
Cheryl is survived by her husband Beryl Melcher, her three children, Jeff Lindwall (Miriam), Beth Freund (Jim), and Greg Lindwall (Lisa), four grandchildren, Nadean, Adrian, Ian, and Christopher, a great granddaughter Aurora, and her sisters Jennifer May and Deanna Flesner.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, Archie and Irene Makinster, her husband Carlton Lindwall, and many good friends.
There will be a Celebration of Life 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at the CONGREGATIONAL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST in Mineral Point, Wisconsin. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.
There will be a private burial at the Dassel Community Cemetery in June.
Donations will be given to the Pointer Pantry in Mineral Point.
