Barneveld’s Jud Poad scored an even par 36 Monday to earn medalist honors as the team finished second among the seven SWAL teams competing at Deer Valley Golf Course. Cuba City/Southwestern/Benton won the team event shooting 153. Barneveld was 12 shots back at 165 while Mineral Point finished third shooting 167.
Cuba City/SW/B, with all five of their golfers back from last year, was led by Ben Thill’s 37, followed by Isaac Wiegman and Landon Loeffelholz’s 38 to lead the way. Mineral Point was led by Drew Aschliman and Gaige Godfrey who both shot 37’s.
Argyle/Pecatonica finished in fourth place and was led by Cohlman Schlimgen’s 39.
"Last night went really well for our first conference meet of the year out at Deer Valley! We knew that Cuba City was going to be the team to beat this year with all 5 golfers coming back from last year’s team. Proud of how we went out and handled the windy conditions and played our game," said Barneveld Head Coach Nate Wood following the meet.
"Jud Poad showed why he is one of the top players in the conference this year by shooting 36 and being medalist for the meet. Sophomore Will Pechan also really stepped up
with a 40 for us," he said.
The next SWAL Varsity Conference Meet will be held on Friday, April 24, at Fennimore’s Hickory Hills.
Team Scores: Cuba City/SW/B 153, Barneveld 165, Mineral Point 167, Argyle/Pec 172, Darlington 181, Iowa-Grant 232 and Fennimore did not qualify having only three golfers compete.
Area individual scores: Barneveld; Jud Poad 36, Noah Doescher 44, Will Pechan 40, Colton Christensen 45, Levi Schmid 51.
Mineral Point; Drew Aschliman 37, Gaige Godfrey 37, Brady Haas 45, Carver Potterton 48, Gage Federman 51.
