Pointer baseball opens topping Cubans

The Mineral Point Pointers opened SWAL conference play on a strong note, earning a 5-3 victory over the Cubans in a competitive matchup.

Locked in a tight game through the early innings, the Pointers found their breakthrough in the sixth. Junior Elliot Kite sparked the rally, driving in two runs to give Mineral Point the lead. Cole Ripp followed with an RBI of his own, capping off an explosive inning that put the Pointers ahead 5-2.

The Cubans threatened to rally in the top of the seventh. Shepherd came around to score after the Pointers committed their fourth error of the game, cutting the deficit and bringing the tying run into play.

However, Mineral Point held firm. Brylen Lee came on in relief and shut the door, earning the save and securing the 5-3 win.

With the victory, the Pointers begin conference play with momentum, showing timely hitting and resilience down the stretch
