Pointers shut out the Redbirds in SWAL opener

Mineral Point’s softball team returned from a power laden tournament in South Shores, Alabama and shut out Darlington 12-0 in five innings.

The Pointers played like they were in mid-season form. Tenleigh Bockhop and Ada Tuttle combined for the shutout and both were impressive. Bockhop struck out five over three frames while giving up one hit. Tuttle worked two innings, surrendered three hits and fanned one.

Maddy Kabat got things rolling in the Pointer lead-off spot with a double and three runs scored.

The Pointers jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning. Kabat scored after tagging up, Bockhop singled, scoring one run, Chloe McVay drew a walk, scoring one run, and a passed ball scored another.

The Pointers added a run in the second. Jadyn Schultz singled down the right field line for an rbi.

The Pointers added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning. After Leah Hoffman singled down the right field line, Kabat doubled down the left field line, Kinch doubled to center field, and Tuttle singled down the left field line, each scoring one run.

Bockhop earned the win for the Pointers.

Wiegel took the loss for Darlington. The right-handed pitcher went two and two-thirds innings, surrendering seven runs (six earned) on six hits, striking out one and walking six.

The Pointers piled up 10 hits in the game. Kinch led with three hits in four at bats. Schultz collected two hits in three at bats. Kabat paced the Pointers with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, tallying nine walks for the game.

Kennedy Wenger pounded a double and drove in a run for the Pointers.

Kabat stole two bases of the team’s five. The Pointers turned one double play in the game and didn’t commit an error. Kinch had the most chances in the field with six.

Norgard went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead the Redbirds in hits.

The Pointers welcome Southwestern on Thursday for their next game.
