LIAM STUMPF, a former Mineral Point High School athlete, was involved in a pair of one run games for the Central Michigan University (CMU) baseball team last weekend. Stumpf, a 6-foot redshirt senior pitcher, was on the bump for a 9-8 win and a 9-8 loss to the visiting Broncos from Western Michigan University (WMU). In the victory, he faced 13 batters, allowing two hits, three walks, and two balks while striking out one and was not the pitcher of record. The Chippewas scored once in the bottom of the ninth to secure the home win. A day later in the loss was a different story entirely as Stumpf was tagged with the loss, his first of the season. He threw 22 pitches to six batters in a full inning of work, allowing three earned runs on two hits, a wild pitch, and a hit batter. CMU (11-16, 5-10) plays at Bowling Green University (Oh) this weekend before hosting UW-Milwaukee next Monday.

ELI LINDSEY, a former Mineral Point High School athlete, helped the Viterbo University men’s golf team to sixth place last week. Lindsey, a freshman, carded a 5-over-par 77 (39-38) on the Irv Warren Golf Course as he was one of four V-Hawks to score in the 70s at the Redtail Spring Shootout, hosted by Hawkeye Community College (Ia). Lindsey’s scorecard included birdies on the 14th and 16th holes and was the only Viterbo player to do so on those holes. The V-Hawks finished with a 302 (150-152) among the 13-team field and were just eight strokes from top spot. Viterbo participates in the Firebird Spring Invite hosted by Carthage College on Thursday.

LEYTON BOWERS, a former Mineral Point High School athlete, reached base in all four games for the UW-Whitewater baseball team last week. Bowers, a 6-0 senior INF, collected three hits, five walks, and was hit by a pitch in four games against UW-L. He scored three times and drove in three as well. All three RBIs came in the first game last Monday when Bowers homered in the top of the 11th inning to plate the game-winning runs as the Warhawks prevailed 4-0. He also had a two-hit game in the series opener, a 5-1 victory for the Warhawks.

DOM MCVAY, a former Mineral Point High School athlete, was a consistent offensive threat once again for the Warhawks. McVay, a 5-9 junior OF, had three 1-for-4 games, all singles, against the Eagles. His single in the sixth inning of the first game drove in a pair of runs. McVay also drew a pair of walks and came around to score following one of them. UW-W (16-3, 8-0) will be at UW-Oshkosh on Wednesday for two games and then travel to UW-EC this weekend.
