Dodge-Point track and field coach Heather Davel Langreck won the National Masters Title in Albuquerque, New Mexico recently.

Competing at the 2026 USATF National Masters Indoor Track and Field Championships in Albuquerque, Langreck captured the national title in the women’s mile, crossing the line in 5:39 in the 45-49 age division.

She also added a second-place finish in the 3000 meters rounding out a strong weekend of racing against top masters athletes from around the country. Langreck competed in the 400 meter dash (1:04), but the race ended in a disqualification from her third place crossing due to a lane violation.

Langreck commented, “I have not come out of blocks on an embanked track before. Coming out of the start, I drifted down hill into the inside lane. A tough mistake, but something to learn from. My mile and 3000m time were very slow compared to my times I ran a few weeks earlier in both events. The other competitors said to add 14 seconds per mile for the 5000 feet elevation factor and they were right!”

Last year, Langreck competed in the 40-44 year old age group and won the USATF National Indoor Championship title in the 800m run and placed 3rd in the 1500m. “I really wanted to compete in the 800m run as I feel that is my event, but I booked my flight a day ahead of the 800m competition. Hopefully, I can compete in the 800m at the Outdoor Nationals in July. USATF Masters Track and Field Competition has been a wonderful experience for me as I am able to compete against former Olympians and meet some fantastic people from around the world.”

Langreck, who coaches the sprints at Dodge-Point High School and is an assistant cross country coach said, “staying active in competing helps me continue to learn from the sport.”
