Iowa County’s SHP Core Team extends our Heartfelt Thanks for your interest, passion and enthusiasm … continually seeking out ways to play a part in our mission of “NO kid sleeps on the floor in our towns”. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support and for all you do to help make this a reality.
Still looking for ways to help and get involved locally that would help us move forward so that we can get kids off of the floor and into their own bed? Here are contacts and resources for 8 ideas.
• Community Builds: Consider joining us at a community build or sponsoring a build. No experience needed just a desire to come together as a community to help kids get their own bed. SAVE THE DATE for our next community build Saturday April 11th. If we have the funding, we are hoping to make 10 bunk beds (20 beds with extra safety rails). Watch for more information and links to sign up or reach out to julie.sincox@shpbeds.org for more volunteering information.
• Home Deliveries: Consider making a difference in a child’s life, their families and your own life and delivering a bed to a child or teen that doesn’t have their own bed, experiencing smiles, excitement and gratitude. If this may be your passion, please reach out to our volunteer coordinator, Julie Sincox at julie.sincox@shpbeds.org.
• Kindhearted Donations: If you have a giving heart, consider giving a donation to our local chapter, every little bit helps and helps us bring dignity, security, comfort and love to a child or teen in Iowa County. You can donate online at give.shpbeds.org/page/FUNBJTFVMYK or on our website https://wiiowacounty.org or mail a check to Sleep in Heavenly Peace at P.O. Box 254 Dodgeville, WI 53533 with SHP WI-Iowa County on the check “to” line or “memo” line.
• Sharing Bedding Talents: If you missed our recent amazing bedding drive at Merrimac and Main and love to sew, stitch or crochet quilts and blankets or shop for bedding deals. We can always use pillows, twin bed sheet sets, throws, comforters and quilts in colorful bedding with fun colors and patterns for kids and teens 3-17. You can connect with our Bedding Coordinator, Cappy Thompson at cappy.thompson@shpbeds.org.
• Spread the Word – We Have Beds Ready: If you or someone you know needs a bed for their kiddos … as a community, our caring volunteers will come together to build a twin bed(s) or bunks, deliver & set them up in the home with a mattress, pillow & all the bedding FREE so that “No kid sleeps on the floor in our town”. Please have them reach out to SHPBEDS.ORG to request a bed, simple confidential process that is not financially based; it is need based. If your child or someone you know does not have their own bed that is a need. Together let’s help you overcome that hurdle & burden and give your children their own bed to crawl into every night.
• Offer Us Bedding Storage Options: We need a dry, clean, secure, safe (no mold, asbestos, extreme dust etc.), critter-free storage space to store our extremely generously donated bedding. We are overwhelmed with gratitude with the generosity of these bedding drives. A good problem to have is that we have outgrown our storage space. Currently we are using basements, guest rooms and offices in various homes, we would love to have one central location for all our bedding to be housed together. If you or someone you know might have a place to be able to help us out with or any leads at all please reach out to sherry.vanharen@shpbeds.org.
• Engaging on Social Media: Please help us spread the word about SHP and Sleep in Heavenly Peace’s mission and check out, share and engage on our FB page, Facebook.com/SHPIOWACOUNTY.
• Outreach, Bed “Sleepovers” & Bringing Awareness: Help us spread the word, share what you know or have experienced. Help propel us forward and get information out to our communities.
If you would like to have us come and speak to your business, organization or group, that is something we would love to do. We get excited interacting with your team, staff and congregation to share our passion and resources.
We also can set up a SHP twin display bed or headboard and photo boards in your business, church, library or venue. Our beds can have a “sleepover” or “nap” at a special event, fundraiser, open house or anywhere to help us bring awareness.
Please reach out to sherry.vanharen@shpbeds.org with any questions, to schedule outreach opportunities or for more information.
