Swenson, Sonja Leigh


Sonja Leigh Swenson, age 64 of rural Barneveld died on Thursday evening, April 25, 2024 at the Agrace Hospice center in Madison.  She was born on November 5, 1959 in Dodgeville to Maynard Juel and Jean (Solberg) Swenson.  The family lived on the family farm on Burma road in rural Barneveld/Hollandale.  Sonja went to school in Hollandale and Blanchardville at the Pecatonica School District, graduating in 1978.  Sonja loved art including drawing, sewing and photography.  She eventually started working for Janlin Plastics in Mount Horeb until they closed, and then worked at  Plastic Ingenuity at the Mazomanie plant.  Sonja was a member of the Perry Lutheran Church.  Sonja also loved horses and horseback riding.  She had many years of helping her father on the farm.  Sonja took care of her family, including her parents when they were ailing.

Sonja is survived by her sister, Kristine Swenson and her friend Lee Nowotny on the family farm in rural Barneveld/Hollandale; her brother Mark Swenson of Barneveld; a niece, Scarlet Swenson and her friend Mitch Boeck; and nephew Jon Swenson-Nowotny; and an Aunt Jeanette Darrow of North Carolina.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Maynard and Jean Swenson.   

A visitation for Sonja will be held on Friday morning, May 3, 2024 from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Blanchard Hall at 204 South Main Street in Blanchardville.  Then a graveside service will follow at the Long Valley Cemetery in rural Hollandale.  Rev.
